Red Hat’s Global Engineering is looking for a Principal Research Scientist to join our AI Innovation team. What You Will Do Lead the development of groundbreaking machine learning techniques, with a focus on large language models (LLMs) Design and implement large scale experiments for alignment research, aiming to understand and improve model behaviors at scale Investigate the applicability and performance of LLMs and generative models across diverse tasks Analyze and manage extensive datasets, translating complex interpretability experiments into actionable insights through high-quality visualizations Work collaboratively with peers across Red Hat departments and researchers at MIT, sharing your expertise and absorbing theirs, to drive a unified research agenda that benefits the entire organization What You Will Bring PhD in related areas (Mathematics, Statistics, Machine Learning) with an exceptional research track record in the areas of LLMs, generative models, and probabilistic modeling, evidenced by high-impact publications or projects Ability to independently shape and execute a research agenda, selecting research problems that not only are technically challenging but also have a high impact on the field Demonstrable skills in data collection and visualization Passionate about understanding and aligning machine learning models to create technologies that remain beneficial and under human control Nice to Have PhD in deep generative models and related topics, ideally complemented by a strong background in statistical learning and probabilistic modeling. Strong hands-on experience in training and tuning very large generative models (Billion+ parameters), familiarity with large-scale model training frameworks like Megatron and DeepSpeed is a plus Published research specifically in the domain of large-scale generative models The salary range for this position is $144,660.00 - $238,650.00. Actual offer will be based on your qualifications. Pay Transparency Red Hat determines compensation based on several factors including but not limited to job location, experience, applicable skills and training, external market value, and internal pay equity. Annual salary is one component of Red Hat’s compensation package. This position may also be eligible for bonus, commission, and/or equity. For positions with Remote-US locations, the actual salary range for the position may differ based on location but will be commensurate with job duties and relevant work experience.
