Job Description

Reports to: Director of Online Learning

Description:
The Instructional Designer provides support for the college’s online learning programs, including, but not limited to online learning, technology integration, and training for online faculty and students.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills related to working with diverse students, faculty and staff.
  • Organizational skills and ability to prioritize responsibilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with instructional technology such as: learning management systems (LMS), web-based instructional technology. Content management system experience helpful. Third-party web-based educational software experience essential.
  • Basic HTML and CSS skills would be a preferred asset.
  • Ability to understand how adults learn gained through experience in education, training, or another related field.

Responsibilities*:

  • Work with faculty to coordinate, design, and create online instructional content that is engaging, interactive, and instructionally sound while adhering to best practices, copyright compliance and effective use of instructional technology.
  • Complete basic course setup in Canvas and mySterling for each term.
  • Produce documentation and data reports for internal and cross-departmental constituents.
  • Provide basic LMS training for online students and faculty through supporting documents, help sites, and live workshops.
  • Provide training and assistance with new technologies for online faculty.
  • Provide instructors assistance with best practices, including copyright compliance and effective use of instructional technologies.
  • Perform basic video editing and multimedia production for online course design.
  • Manage proctoring for online courses, when applicable.
  • Manage ADA compliance in online courses.
  • Assist in compliance with state, regional and federal regulations of online programs.
  • Balance workload and project overflow with the Director of Online Learning.
  • Other duties as necessary to support online education at Sterling College

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • At least 2 years of experience in education preferred, specifically experience integrating technology with instruction.
