CHEMIST III

THE CHEMIST III WILL . . .
  • Operate and maintain equipment and participate in the completion of group activities.
  • Group activities include responding to moderately complex requests for chemical analysis whether from the Manufacturing, Technical Services, R&D or from our customers.
  • Develop and implement plans which outline action to support the achievement of defined department goals.
  • Participates in and may manage projects and services with Manufacturing, Technical Services, R&D and other functions.
  • Identify, recommend and participate in the implementation of innovative improvements to existing processes used to manufacture specialty steels.
  • Coordinate project results at various stages and recommend and implement approved changes in direction. Communicate project results through detailed technical reports and memoranda. Maintain complete and accurate records, data books and other required documentation.
  • Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS FOR THE CHEMIST III...
  • Four-year college degree in Chemistry or related science field.
  • 4-7 years of analytical, environmental or process chemistry experience.
  • Effectively manages small projects or sub-teams, including coordination of resources outside of own area. Forecasts and plans resource requirements for small projects or sub-teams.
  • Monitors and controls costs within own work and may manage costs for small projects or areas.
  • Advanced knowledge of chemical analysis, standards, methods and practices.
  • Advanced knowledge of laboratory instruments and equipment.
  • Advanced knowledge of various software applications including spreadsheet, word processing, graphics and analytical programs.
  • Well-developed analytical and instrumental knowledge.
  • Solves moderately complex problems; takes a new perspective on existing solutions.
  • Interprets customer needs, assesses requirements and identifies solutions to non-standard requests.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and make appropriate decisions.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work in a production-oriented environment.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Project management skills. Ability to participate in and complete moderately complex projects.
