Overview
CJE SeniorLife Weinberg Community for Senior Living is a premier assisted living campus in Deerfield that provides a warm, supportive environment with engaging life enrichment opportunities to enhance the lives of its residents. We help those who require care for rehab, dementia and long-term assistance. We are part of the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago.
Under supervision of Weinberg Staff creates, plans, and implements programs and activities using Art Therapy and other creative arts therapy techniques to explore life issues and enhance quality of life for the Weinberg Community. The full-time Creative Arts Therapist would work alongside Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor/Dance Movement Therapist, Music Therapist, and Life Enrichment Staff.
Populations served: Residents and clients diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias living in and/or participating in a memory care community. Residents needing physical assistance living in our assisted living community. Life review and community building through the arts are important goals of the creative arts therapy practice at Weinberg Community.
Compensation: $23.00 per hour.
The employee has the option of becoming a dues-paying member in Service Employees International Union Local 73.
Shift
Tuesday to Saturday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. Off on Sunday and Monday.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Creates, plans, and implements programs and activities using Art Therapy and additional creative therapeutic techniques; to enhance well-being, provide sensory stimulation, and facilitate life review and new learning by engaging clients in experiential arts in group and individual settings.
Implementation of group programming for older adults with various age-related issues and appropriate documentation of services.
Participate and contribute to care plan meetings and support groups as needed.
Assists in the coordination and planning with volunteers for programs.
Works with the rest of the life enrichment team to provide the highest level of engagement in meaningful activities.
Communicates with staff regarding client concerns and responses to creative arts; communicates with staff regarding all scheduling details related to performance of creative arts activities.
Attends meetings and in-services as designated by the supervisor.
Responsible for leading educational workshops and in services on issues affecting clients, staff, volunteers and caregivers of the community; educates CJE staff on arts-based interventions in the older adult community.
Collaborates closely with other clinical staff members to brainstorm and share ideas.
Light lifting of materials is required along with setup of materials, as well as assisting with transporting residents from one space to another.
Assists with life enrichment programs as needed.
Other tasks as assigned.
Requirements
Master’s degree in Art Therapy or Expressive Arts Therapy from an accredited school.
1 year experience working with older adults preferred.
Experience in office systems with specific skills in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
Local travel may be required.
